Trash and Recycling

Borough of Bridgeport provides residential curbside trash and recycling collection through a third-party contractor, J.P. Mascaro & Sons. The annual fee for residential trash & recycling collection is $132.50 quarterly, or $530 annually, effective January 1, 2026. Berkheimer provides payment collection services for Bridgeport, and handles all billing inquiries, 610-588-0965. All qualified residences (single family units, multifamily units of 3 or fewer) are obligated to utilize the Borough's contracted service.

Please note that while all residential properties of less than four units utilize this service; all multifamily units of four or greater must contract with their own private hauler. Both trash and recycling are collected once a week on Tuesdays.

Below are some general rules for the storing and putting out of trash and recycling at your home:

  • Residents must place trash in durable, reusable containers (typically metal or plastic) of up to 96 gallons and recycling in durable, reusable containers of up to 65 gallons.
  • Trash must be bagged and placed in containers, not placed loose into them. NO PLASTIC BAGS SHOULD BE PLACED OUT FOR COLLECTION OUTSIDE OF A CONTAINER, unless necessary.
  • Please do not put out trash in paper bags, cardboard boxes, or containers smaller than 20 gallons. These cause litter, especially on windy days!
  • Container lids must be fully closed in order to prevent litter.
  • Residents are allowed to set out up to two (2) trash containers and one (1) recycling container for each collection.
  • Containers should be marked as either trash or recycling as well as with the property address and unit number, if applicable.
  • Containers must be set out for collection no earlier than 4 PM on the day before collection day and no later than 6 AM on collection day and taken in no later than 11:59 PM that day.
  • If its not possible to store them in the rear or side yards, all containers stored at the front of the property MUST BE SCREENED FROM VIEW from the street. The Borough Code contains a full set of standards for screenings as well as examples - an overview of which can be found here.

Important Information

BOROUGH COUNCIL ADOPTS SENIOR TRASH BILL DISCOUNT
Beginning in 2024, any residential trash account holder (primary residence, not rental properties) that is aged 60 or older will be eligible for a ten percent (10%) discount on their annual trash fee. Eligible account holders will need to provide proof of age (driver license or birth certificate) to the Berkheimer tax office at Bridgeport Borough Hall, in person, and the bill will be adjusted if qualified. Berkheimer will issue a credit upon eligible trash accounts for the first bill, and the discount would then be applied to future bills, provided no name changes are made to the account. Please review your quarterly trash bills, as they will contain instructions on how to apply for the senior discount and obtain the credit.
