2026 Business License Renewal and Code Update
Attention Bridgeport Businesses,
On May 26, 2026, Bridgeport Borough Council adopted Ordinance 2026-003, updating the Borough Code regarding the licensing of businesses located and operating within the Borough, whether home occupations or brick and mortars. Per the newly amended Chapter 331 of the Borough Code, new businesses are required to apply for a business license before opening and existing businesses are required to renew their licenses annually. The business license fee is established in the Borough’s annual Fee Schedule and is currently $50.
Why this matters?
The Borough Code § 331-1 requires an annual business license for "all persons conducting a commercial business or practicing a profession in the Borough of Bridgeport." As such, obtaining a license is a vital and legally required step in opening and continuing to operate a business in Bridgeport. Note: A business license from the Borough does not replace the various county, state, and/or federal licenses that your business may be required to obtain prior to opening and to continue to operate, such as health permits and child care certifications.
Additionally, proper business licensing helps the Borough maintain a comprehensive directory of recognized business entities operating in the borough, containing vital economic data that helps inform a range of economic development and business-focused efforts that in turn help benefit Bridgeport's business community as a whole.
What action do you need to take?
If you have not previously filed for a 2026 business license, please submit your business license application immediately, along with cash or check in person or via mail to “Borough of Bridgeport, 63 W 4th St, Bridgeport, PA 19405”. Please make checks payable to “Borough of Bridgeport”. Alternatively, you may pay online with credit card (convenience fee) at www.bridgeportborough.org and submit your application via email to agear@bridgeportborough.org.
Once proper documentation and payment have been received and approved, your business license will be mailed to you and must be displayed in a public area of your business, per § 331-8 of the Borough Code.
