Upper Merion Community Garden now open to Bridgeport Residents

UPPER MERION COMMUNITY GARDEN NOW OPEN TO BRIDGEPORT RESIDENTS

Upper Merion Community Garden (UMCG) has announced that they are making 10ft x 10ft garden plots available to Bridgeport residents beginning this season. Interested residents should register by a) visiting the UM Community Center in person or b) online by visiting Upper Merion's Community Pass portal HERE.

Below are the guidelines for the UMCG:

• We are a Community Garden. Please interact with other gardeners with that in mind. Any disputes should be resolved directly. If you need assistance, contact the garden manager.
• Each gardener is responsible for the maintenance of their plot. Watering, weeding, harvesting, and any other garden related maintenance are all the responsibility of the gardener. Gardeners may arrange for other gardeners to water their plots.
• Plots must be attended weekly. If your plot goes three weeks without attendance, it will be subject to forfeiture.
• If you will not be able to attend your plot for legitimate reasons, (vacation, illness, etc.), please notify the garden committee.
• Vegetable, herbs, and flowers only.
• The application of herbicides (weed killers) to the garden plots is prohibited.
• Gardeners are required to donate two days (eight total hours) of community work per year. This involves maintaining the walkways, cleaning up the garden site, and any maintenance that becomes necessary.
• A percentage of the harvest (to be determined by the Community of Gardeners) will be donated to assist food insecure families. This is a requirement.
• All community tools are to be returned to the shed once you are finished with them. You may always bring your own tools.
• All locks (shed, garden entrance, etc.) must be secured once the last person leaves the garden on a given day.
• Do not plant anything (corn, sunflowers, etc.) that will grow tall enough to block the sun from a neighboring plot.
• Children are always welcome in the Garden. They must be accompanied by an adult and attended to at all times.
• At the end of the growing season, gardeners are responsible for clearing their plot of all plant material and leaving the plot as they found it in the spring.
• The Garden Committee is responsible for ensuring that the rules are followed.

If residents should have any further questions, they should contact UMCG at uppermerioncommunitygarden@gmail.com

Thank you to UMCG for making this available to Bridgeport residents!
