Flood Watch Issued for Montgomery County; localized flooding should be expected

Flood Watch Issued for Montgomery County - July 9, 2023

This report applies to the Flooding and Severe Weather Potential, Sunday 7/9.

Significant event details and developments:

1. A Flood Watch has been issued for Montgomery County. The primary hazard is heavy rain leading to flash flooding. Some of the storms could also be severe, with damaging winds. The risk of hail and tornadoes is low at this time.

2. The risk for both flash flooding and damaging winds exists across the region, but the highest risk for flash flooding is generally near and northwest of the I-95 corridor. The highest risk for damaging winds is over Delmarva and portions of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

3. Excessive rainfall rates of 2 inches or more per hour are probable. This can result in areas of flash flooding, especially in urban/poor drainage areas and locations that have received heavy rain the last couple of days. Tree and wire damage will be possible with any damaging wind gusts.

4. Showers and storms could move into the region this morning, but the prime period for the main line of showers and storms is between 1 and 10 PM. High confidence torrential rainfall occurs with an associated flash flood threat; lower confidence regarding exactly where the heaviest rain totals will be, the severe thunderstorm coverage, and how quickly storms move eastward.

County and Borough emergency response staff are monitoring the situation and will provide additional updates if and when needed.
